Alma Resource Sharing Guide

This guide explains the various components of FLVC's current resource sharing processes also known as UBorrow.

UBorrow History

Prior to Mar 2011:  FCS had a college-wide requesting service which allowed their patrons to request material from other colleges locations.  The polices used were the policy at the lending location.

Mar 2011 - SUS Only - Soft Launch of UBorrow.  Policy was 60 day loan period with one 30 day renewal, 2 day expiration.

Aug 2011 - SUS Only UBorrow Full Launch

Feb 2014 - FCS and SUS were integrated into each other's Lender lists as last resort.

June 2014 - MCLS approved RSSC new SUS/FCS joint UBorrow policies: 45 day loan period, with one renewal, and 2 business day expiration.

July 2015 - FCS and SUS Lender lists were modified based on geographic region.

Sep 2016 - MCLS Approved RSSC new Lost billing policy.

Dec 2019 - MCLS approved RSSC proposal to remove patron due date padding from the lender due date, to account for shipping delays and closed days, which would usually decrease the patron's loan period, to prevent items being overdue to lender.  The overall objective of the proposal is to give the patron the full loan period.

June 2019 - MCLS approved RSSC proposal to change the loan period from 45 to 60 days.  Renewal remained at one, for 30 days.  2 business day expiration.

June 2019 - MCLS approved RSSC proposal to included media in UBorrow on voluntary basis.

March 2020 - UBorrow shutdown and expiration jobs stopped due to Covid-19 closures

August 2020 - UBorrow reactivated for almost all libraries.

October 2020 - UBorrow expiration jobs turned on with a temporary 7 day expiration date, due to unprocessed requests.

July 2021 - July 13th Go-Live on Alma/Primo VE.

October 2021 -  MCLS approved RSSC recommendation to change the Lender Expiration period from 7 days to 4 days.

May 2022 - UBorrow lending due dates were modified to prevent premature Overdue requests.  The UBorrow due date to return material to the Lender is 100 days to accommodate the 60 day loan period & potential 30 day renewal, plus approximately 10 days for delivery to/from.  The patron loan period at the Borrowing library is still set at 60 days.  Automated renewals via Primo were also implemented.

July 2022 - Media items have been added to UBorrow.

December 2022 - Policy changed to 90 day loan period with a maximum renewal period of an additional 30 days.
