Alma Resource Sharing Guide

This guide explains the various components of FLVC's current resource sharing processes also known as UBorrow.

Alma/FLIN SHAREit Integration

Alma/FLIN SHAREit Integration

FLIN SHAREit is the State Library of Florida's solution for statewide resource sharing.  More information can be found here: https://dos.myflorida.com/library-archives/library-development/digital/resource-sharing/

If your institution is a participating member it is possible to set up a partial integration between the Flin SHAREit system and Alma. It is considered a partial integration because work still needs to be completed in the SHAREit client in order for it to work.

For Lending:

  1. Requests from Flin SHAREit will create a new Lending request in Alma.
  2. The Lending request will auto locate the item and create a Pick From Shelf
  3. The request needs to be completed in the SHAREit client by updating the barcode field in the request and clicking submit.
  4. When the request is submitted in the SHAREit client a message is sent to Alma to update the Lending Request to "Sent to Partner" and the item is put into the temporary resource sharing location.
  5. When the item is returned, it needs to be processed in the SHAREit client. Once it is returned in the client SHAREit sends a message to Alma to close the Lending Request and place the item Intransit back to its owning library.

For Borrowing:

  1. All patron borrowing requests from Flin SHAREit still need to originate in the Flin SHAREit system.
  2. When the requested item is physically received and updated in the SHAREit client a message is sent to Alma to create a Borrowing Request, a temporary item record, and a hold request for the patron.
  3. The patron can then check out the book as usual.
  4. When the item is returned by the patron it should not be returned in Alma, rather it should be returned in the SHAREit client which will send a message to Alma to return the item from the patron, delete the temporary item, and close the Borrowing Request.

If you are interested in one or both integrations, please submit a ticket to the help desk.
