FL-Islandora Guide: XVI. How to Add Images

A guide for FL-Islandora users.

Basic Image Loads

Add an Image in Islandora 2.0

1. In your collection click the children tab. Select Add children

2. Click Repository item

Change the title to what you want it to display as 

In the model drop-down select “Image” 

3. Scroll down to "Type and Extent" and in the Type drop down, choose Still Image.

4. Continue down to "System" and select the viewer override you wish to use. For images we suggest Mirador or OpenSeadragon. Add any other metadata you wish to in the appropriate spots.

5. Click save 

6. Now in the Child you just created click the Media tab Click “Add media”

7. Select “Image”

8. Change the name to what you want it to display as, click “Browse” and select your image (Note the 128 mb limit on images)

9. In Media Use select” Original file” and if you’d like a thumbnail image select “Thumbnail image” as well. 

Check to make sure that the "Media of" section shows the item you created in the first steps, where you want it to appear.

10. Click save 

 

How to Add TIFFs and JP2s

You can use JP2s and TIFFs when adding an Image. The below steps will show how along with how to add a contributor.

1.  Logged in, navigate to the collection where you want to add a image. Click on Children. Click Add Child. Click Repository Item.

2.  Scroll down to Contributors and click on it. There are 2 parts to adding a contributor. If a name is just typed in and the Save button at the bottom is clicked an error message will appear at the top. To add a Contributor first click “person” in blue font in the paragraph just under the Contributors boxes.

3.  Clicking on the person link or the other 2 links, will bring you to a Add term page for either person, family or corporate body. For this example, Add term for Person is used. Click into the Name box and type in the name. The Source default Canadian Subject Headings can be kept as long as no URL or Alternate link text is added. If a URL is added select an item from the Source drop down menu. Add any other info scrolling down to the bottom. Click the Save button when done. Close the Add term tab.

4.  Scroll down Publication Details and Dates and click on it. Scroll down to Date Created to add a date if desired.

5.  Click on Type and Extent and select Still Image from the Type drop-down menu.

6.  Click on any other items to add items. When done click the Save button.

7.  Next Click on Media to add your Tiff JP2. Click the Add Media button. Click File.

8.  The Name is prefilled from when you started to make the Large Image. Click the Browse button under File. Select the large image that you want to add. Select Original File from under Media Use. You can leave the Height and Width the default blank. Click the Save button to add it to your collection.

9.  Click Back to site in the upper left of the screen.

10.  You should see the large image that you just added.
