Discovery and E-Resources Guide

This Libguide contains documentation, training, and configuration information on FLVC's PrimoVE Discovery tool.

Search Profile Slots and Search Profiles

To assist in understanding what users are searching in Primo, here are some screenshots.

To find the Alma table that configures what you see on the Primo homepage search box, shown below,

go to Discovery > Config Views and choose the view you have in Production (generally has a blue dot.)

Navigate to the Search Profile Slots tab, shown in yellow:

Here you'll find a table that looks similar to the one below. In the Name column, you'll see the search slots you have that show on your Primo home page.

To understand what these slots are searching, look at the Search Profiles column, circled in green, and then to find the details on what's included in each search profile, navigate to Discovery > Search Profiles menu to find this table. The numbers in red below, correspond to the numbered search slots above.

  1. Everything - This slot searches the MyInstitution and Central Index Profiles. MyInstitution represents things you have activated in Alma. And the Central Index is described in #4 below, with more details in the links section.
  2. Library Catalog - searches MyInstitution profile -  what's activated in Alma
  3. Statewide Catalog - local electronic and digital catalog records plus network physical records
  4. Articles - because article level records are not in Alma, the Central Index provides CDI records to subscribed, purchased or open access content. Records are created by various vendors and include the metadata for the articles.
  5. Course Reserves - records linked to an active course

Search Profiles - Available Settings

Overview of CDI settings for search profiles.

  • Filter by Availability - checking this results in the Expand My Results slider to appear
  • Exclude CDI eBooks - For items with portfolios in Alma, this suppresses the CDI version of those book records, while allowing the CDI records for Chapters to still display
  • Search in FT - Configure whether searches check full text for matches in CDI, and whether end users can override this setting in the UI
  • CDI Resource Types - see the link below for "Defining Specialized Search Scopes for CDI"

To customize CDI settings for Search Profiles go to Discovery> Search Profiles, and use the ellipses to get this table:
