Discovery and E-Resources Guide

This Libguide contains documentation, training, and configuration information on FLVC's PrimoVE Discovery tool.

Local Resource Types for the Consortium

  • Currently, we can define maximum of 10 local resource types. Coordinated thru DISC and UISC
    • Ex Libris is expanding the number but we're not sure of the timeline.
  • All 40 institutions must use the same resource types.
  • There are currently six local resource types;

    • Dublic Core - 4:

      • Periodical

      • 3D Digital Object

      • Academic Project

      • Digital Resource

    • MARC - 2:

      • Equipment

      • Games

Instructions for adding Equipment and Games Resource Types

The Games  and Equipment Resource Types can be set up using records in your Institution Zone. The records must be unlinked from the NZ. You can use the Unlink a set of records job.

These instructions are for Games  Resource Type, but do the same steps for Equipment, substituting Equipment. where needed.

1. CHANGES TO MARC RECORD. For applicable records, add  Games.  to the 991/MARC subfield a  --  Include the period.

This can be done by individual record, (CNTRL +L  in MDE), or by creating a set and adding a norm rule and process.  You can find the norm rule in the Shared section, titled 'Add Games 991.'   If you don't know how to do Normalization Rules & Processes, submit a Help Desk case.

2. RESOURCE TYPE CONFIGURATION. Add Games in the Resource Type Config menu.  In the Code field, make sure ‘games’ is lower case so it correctly connects to the icon file. Config > Discovery > Resource Type Config

Fill out the form like above, including the Add Condition section where you’ll choose MARC 991, and add Games.  Again, be sure to include the period.

3. GAMES ICON. Add the Games Icon to your Primo customization package.

Upload the image to your IMG folder. Make sure it’s in PNG format. Name the file icon_games  (all lower case)

4. CREATE SET OF RECORDS. After you’ve added Games. to the 991, create a Set of those records.  Itemize the set.

5. RECALCULATE LOCAL RESOURCE TYPES. Run Recalculate Local Resource Types job.

a. Admin > Run a Job

b. Type ‘recalculate’ in the search box to find the job:

Choose the job, select Next.  Choose the itemized set, select Next. Click Submit.

6. VERIFY. Check your Primo to see the changes.

New Items

If you've implemented Games and/or Equipment Resource Types, when you add a new resource, you will need to add Games or Equipment in the 991, and then run the Recalculate Local Resource Types job on the new records.
