NDE Checklists

NDE Testing Checklist Spreadsheet

The checklist attached below is a non-exhaustive list of steps, settings, and customizations that is designed to help institutions get started on creating and testing their NDE views.

Changes and additions to the spreadsheet will be announced and new versions will be added to this page.

Spreadsheets are organized broadly by NDE interface areas and includes:

  • Status column // Area // What to look for // Path to edit // Notes // Links to Ex Libris and FLVC documentation

Branding the NDE

This 8 minute video from Ex Libris - User Interface Configuration -  does a good job of demonstrating how to:

  • download the customization package,
  • rename the folders,
  • upload your logo,
  • add a browser favicon,
  • change the homepage background image and more.

For those who prefer written instructions with screenshots, see below.

Editing Customization Package

Before editing your files, make a backup of your customization package in case something goes awry and you need to reload what you had before making the edits.

  1. Start by downloading a Customization Package (Discovery -> Config Views -> Manage Customization Package tab
    • 1st time - the first time you download the customization package, choose the "Template View"
    • After you have uploaded your first edits, use the "Current View" which will no longer be greyed out. This will keep previous edits that have been made to your package.
    • The "Central Customization Package" does not apply to our environment.
  2. Rename the top folder to include the code for the NDE View
  3. Logo
    • Your logo file will go in the Assets > Images folder
    • Name your logo file 'library-logo.png'  (you'll override the image already there)
    • Dimensions - max 100 pixels high, 300 pixels wide. File size up to 30 KB
    • You can make your loco clickable by adding a URL in the Config Views > General tab.
  4. Favicons
    • By default, the browser tab favicon is for Clarivate -
    • Examples of customized favicons -
    • Your favicon file will go in the Assets > Icons folder
    • Dimensions - 16 x 16 pixels
    • File must be named 'favicon.ico' and is required to be in the ico format - Google 'ico file converter' and you'll see website options that can do this for you.
  5. Homepage background image
    • To replace the bookshelf image that is the background to the search area, add your image to the 'homepage' folder and name your image 'homepage_background.svg'
    • You can convert PNG images to SVG using programs like Canva or Adobe Illustrator
    • Ex Libris has released these recommendations (Dec 2025):
      • Rendered size: 1280 x 320 px
      • Rendered aspect ratio: 4:1
      • File size: 485 KB
    • Following the aspect ratio, the image needs to be wider than it is tall. For example, in addition to the above rendered size, we’ve seen 2000 x 600 work

    • Scroll to "Customizing the Landing Page" - for more details
  6. Homepage template file - NEEDS to be re-named--
    • In the Assets > homepage folder - find the homepage_en.html.tmpl file and rename it, removing the '.tmpl'
    • Open your  homepage_en.html file in an html editor to make changes.
  7. Homepage CSS file - NEEDS to be re-named --
    • In the Assets > homepage folder - find the homepage.css.tmpl folder and rename it, removing the '.tmpl'

Browser tab & Landing page/search box text

  1. Browser tab text
    • The default text is "Ex Libris Discovery"
    • To edit go to Discovery > Display Config > Labels menu
    • Use the 'Search for Labels' tool to find the correct table. If you know the code, use the default drop-down "Code" and type 'main.title' for browser tab text. If you don't know the Code, search for it using the drop-down menu, changing 'Code' to 'Description' - then search by the current text.

  • For each Label table, the initial step is to choose 'Customize' from the options in the right menu.
    • Label Code = Main.title
  1. Landing Page text (above search box)
    • Default text is "Your Discovery Begins Here"
    • To edit go to Discovery > Display Config > Labels menu
      • Label Code = nde.landing.header
