Adding New Print Serial Title in Alma

Finding Bibliographic Record from the Network Zone

  1. In advanced search bar, conduct an "All Titles" search by title or ISSN in the Network Zone.

  2. Find the correct resource in the results list, and verify that you are selecting the record with a print material type > Push to MDE

  3. Select Show MDE in the left hand navigation bar.
  4. In left panel of the Metadata Editor (MDE), you will see your pushed bibliographic record. Click on it to select it, the record will populate on the right side of the screen.

Adding a Holding Record

  1. In left panel of MDE, select Templates > Holdings > Shared > Continuing Resources. The holding template will appear on the far right side of the screen.
Note:I recommend deleting the 853/863 fields from the holding, as you can apply a prediction pattern from a template in the metadata editor. To delete fields in the metadata editor: click anywhere in the field you'd like to delete, Editing Actions > Remove Field.
  2. In the 852 field Click "..." > Open form editor to add your holding details. Enter:
    • First indicator, most common are 0 for Library of Congress Classification or 5 for Title.
    • Sublocation or collection (b)
    • Shelving location (c)

  3. Hit Esc key to exit out of the 852. Save your holding by selecting Save.

Adding Items

  1. If you're still working in the MDE and would like to add items manually,  Add Inventory > Add Item. You will be pushed to the Physical Item Editor, where you can add an item barcode, loan policy etc.
  2. If you'd instead like to add a prediction pattern to create items for your serial record, see Creating Prediction Patterns.
